TikTok's duvet cover hack makes changing your bed a breeze

Changing duvets is one of the household chores we most despise (see also taking out the trash and cleaning the toilet).

The painful task of tucking your duvet into a new cover will undoubtedly leave you frustrated and probably sweating profusely.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that almost a quarter (24%) of Brits admit to only changing their bedsheets every “three or four weeks”.

Thankfully, TikTok user shadyysandyy has come up with a brilliant hack that makes the daunting task of changing your duvet cover a dream come true.

“I'm going to show you a simple way to put on a duvet cover,” the woman in the clip begins, before breaking down the technique into a simple step-by-step demonstration.

Step one is to turn your duvet cover inside out and place it on your bed with the opening of the cover facing the headboard.

Then, place the duvet on top of the inverted cover.

The third step is to tightly roll up the duvet and duvet cover into a sausage-like spiral, starting at the bottom of the bed and continuing up to the top of the bed.

You might be wondering how on earth you can achieve the perfect bed, but you just need to keep the faith.

The next step is to flip your duvet onto the cover. Don't worry, it's easier than you think. You basically just pull the duvet cover over your duvet and button it up.

I promise it's easier to do than to explain.

Finally, simply unfold your newly created bed. Easy!

Given how much we hate changing our beds, it's not hard to understand why the hack is currently going viral on video-sharing platform TikTok, where it has garnered nearly 400,000 likes.

Judging by some of the 5,000 comments below the video clip, there seems to be a real demand for hacks that make the chore of changing beds just a little easier.

“I basically crawl in and push it to the bottom, not graceful. Now I'm embarrassed,” one user wrote.

“I almost kicked my boyfriend out yesterday when we were getting changed. It never gets any easier.”

Meanwhile, some people couldn't believe how easy it was to change their duvet cover.

“Wait a second, what just happened?” one person asked.

“I think she just did magic,” commented another.

Others may vouch for the fact that the duvet hack is a success.

“I've been doing this for years and still don't understand how it works,” one person commented. “I'm amazed every time it works.”

According to Lucy Ellis from Perfecting Property, our reluctance to replace our duvets could be linked to the fact that our beds have gotten bigger.

“The average size of beds and bedding that people choose is getting larger,” she explains. “The larger the bedding, the more difficult it is to replace the bed.

“To put it in perspective, the most popular size duvet (king size) is approximately 7 feet by 7 feet, compared to the average height of a man being 5 feet 9 inches and an average height of a woman being 5 feet 3 inches. [for women]. “

Ellis says TikTok's duvet hacks seem like a great solution for anyone who struggles to switch up their bedding: “They're especially great for people with limited mobility or who don't have the space to shake out their duvet, not to mention they make it look so easy,” she explains.

And Ellis has her own way of changing the bedding.

“Whenever I turn over my bed, I always turn my duvet cover inside out, grab a corner of the duvet body and shake it so that the cover slides down onto the rest of the duvet, then smooth it out flat for a perfect finish,” she says.

Meanwhile, people are also praising the simple but effective solution of storing baking trays to stop them rolling off every time you use them.
