Besides being affordable and best-selling, Kirkland and Melani bed sheets have a lot in common. For starters, each set includes one fitted sheet, one flat sheet, and pillowcases. (Kirkland's set includes four pillowcases, while Melani's four-piece set includes two pillowcases.) Neither bedding set comes with a duvet cover, but don't worry. House BeautifulHere are our favorites. Not only are these sheets incredibly easy to wash and care for, we tossed them in the washing machine right after we bought them and followed the instructions for each set, and they've stayed just as good wash after wash. They're also wrinkle-resistant, which means your maintenance needs are kept to a minimum. And because the pockets are deep, the fitted sheet in each of our picks fits snugly over a thick mattress.

But there are significant differences between the two sets, and the biggest difference is the materials used. Kirkland's Signature sheet set is made from Pima cotton, a natural fiber that's said to be breathable, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic. Meanwhile, the Mellanni Iconic Bedding sheet set is made from microfiber, a synthetic cotton alternative that's moisture-wicking, breathable, and silky to the touch. Another thing to consider is style. Mellanni's sheets come in 40 colors and patterns, as well as a variety of fits (deep pockets! Twin XL! RV mattress options!), while Kirkland's offerings are limited to four colors and four sizes.

Kirkland vs Amazon Sheet Set Review

Over the past few years, Costco has become a hidden gem for buying household essentials at bargain prices. and A strange but wonderful find: I'd heard that the company's flagship brand, Kirkland sheets, have a cult following (thousands of online reviews say they're some of the best value sheets out there), so I knew I had to treat myself to a set. There were only four colors to choose from, so I opted for the cool gray option.

Strong Points:

  • Heavyweight Pima cotton fabric is soft and durable
  • 18 inch pocket can accommodate thick mattresses
  • Comes with 4 pillowcases
  • GripOn Corner Technology with reinforced rubber provides a snug and secure fit to your mattress

Cons:

  • More expensive than Mellanni sheets
  • Only 4 colors
  • If the weave is too tight, it will not regulate the temperature.

Mellanni may not be as well-known yet, but with over 351,000 ratings and 4.5/5 stars on Amazon, it's safe to say they're the best in the bedding category on the site. While I was picking out my sheets, I noticed there were so many options for sizes and colors. It can be overwhelming, but on the plus side, it means you'll likely find a sheet set that matches your decor aesthetic. (I ended up buying some in qhite, light blue, and the gray pinstripe you see in the photos.)

Strong Points:

  • Microfiber material feels like silk
  • Sheets are designed to be shrink, fade and pill resistant
  • Some sizes can be purchased for under $50
  • Choose from 40 colors and patterns

Cons:

  • These sheets are very It is thin and may be prone to wear over time.
  • The thin elastic around the fitted sheet can loosen over time (I haven't experienced this myself, but stillI've had that happen with most other fitted sheets with thin elastic bands, so I guess it's just a matter of time!)
  • Some reviews point out that unless you buy the oversized sheets, your pockets may be too shallow (although my mattress is 12 inches thick and I found the standard sheets to be adequate).

The feel of the sheets

Thread density used to be the strongest indicator of comfort and quality, but over the years, experts and discerning shoppers have agreed that the quality of the fiber is more important. Both Kirkland and Melani sheets are very cozy, but the materials used in each set play a big role in their overall feel.

Kirkland sheets are made from Pima cotton that somehow manages to have the crispness of my favorite percale bedding and the softness of flannel. When I took this set out of the package, I was surprised at how comfortable it was. The sheets weren't flimsy or cheap-feeling, they were thick and durable. And they are expensive. (Honestly, if I didn't know better, I would have assumed they were a premium bedding brand.) Don't take my word for it; even my husband, who isn't as picky about bedding as I am, was surprised at how soft they really were, and that they were from Costco.

The only complaint I had about these sheets was that they were a little Too Staying warm at night. I often find myself overheating while I sleep, and I wake up feeling hotter and clammier than usual in the mornings, but it's a minor annoyance that's easily solved by ditching a bulky comforter.

I had the exact opposite problem with the Mellanni sheet set. The microfiber material used here is lightweight, breathable, and temperature regulating. I didn't necessarily wake up feeling cold, but I didn't wake up drenched in sweat either. (I felt fine and normal, so that's a win for me.) The material feels silky smooth to the touch, similar to my favorite cool bedding. The only downside is that these sheets are pretty thin. I didn't notice any tears in the sheets after washing, but I'm curious to see how they'll hold up in the long run.

The fit of the bed sheets

When it comes to finding sheets that fit your bed, most people will buy bedding that matches the size of their mattress. But Kirkland sheets have a few little touches that ensure a perfect fit. First, the directional labels on the fitted sheet streamline the task of making your bed. But perhaps best of all is GripOn Corner Fit Technology. Reinforced elastic along the corners ensure the fitted sheet stays snug and in place all night long. (Many of my fitted sheet elastic bands have come loose over time, so the extra insurance is a godsend.)

What about Melani's sheets? They fit perfectly. Are you okayI've had no issues with the standard size pockets, but some reviews claim that the corners of the mattress are too shallow. Like most sheets in my linen closet, the elastic band on the fitted sheet is quite thin. So far so good, but I'm concerned that, like all sheets, this elastic band will loosen over time. You can buy sheet suspenders to fix loose elastic bands, but it's still something to consider when buying sheets on Amazon.

Final Verdict

If you're looking for sturdy sheets under $100, you can't go wrong with either set. They're both incredibly smooth to the touch and easy to clean. That said, if you're looking to buy just one set of sheets that will last you years, the Kirkland option is the one to go for. The tight weave and thick material make them soft yet sturdy, so they'll last longer. Method ) We also liked the reinforced elastic at each corner, which helps hold the fitted sheet in place without the need for sleep suspenders.

Kirkland sheets certainly live up to their reputation, but they're not perfect. Not only does this set come in a limited number of colors, but people who heat up while sleeping may wake up a little warmer in the morning. If a wide range of colors and cooling technology are a priority for you, the Melani microfiber sheets are a great option. These sheets are thinner than the Costco sheets and may be more susceptible to wear and tear over time, but you can buy two of them for about the same price as the Kirkland set. This is a great choice for those who want to try out loud colors and patterns, or simply want a spare.
